Interlinking, bases, modules and accessories need to work as one designed system. Similar-looking alarms are not automatically interchangeable.

Final selection still depends on the property type, required Grade and Category, detector location, interlinking requirements, Building Regulations, BS 5839-6 recommendations, landlord/HMO requirements, budget and confirmed manufacturer compatibility.

Why we do not simply buy the cheapest alarm.
Two products may both look like “smoke alarms” and still be very different in sensing technology, interlinking, backup power, technical support and suitability for a designed system.

AVAG’s position
Price is one factor, but it is not the first factor when selecting life-safety equipment. We would rather install an appropriate alarm from an established manufacturer than reduce the specification simply to save a small amount on each detector.

What about very cheap or unfamiliar online alarms?
A low purchase price alone is not enough information to determine suitability. Before using an unfamiliar product, we would want to verify relevant certification, the applicable product standard, manufacturer information, installation instructions, product lifespan, interlink compatibility, backup-power arrangements, technical support and suitability for the required BS 5839-6 system.
Why the installer still matters
A good alarm still needs the right design.
A premium alarm installed in the wrong place or specified for the wrong application may still provide the wrong type of protection.

Which smoke alarm brand does AVAG normally recommend?
Aico is normally our first choice for professional domestic fire and CO systems because we know the product ecosystem well and it offers a broad professional range. It is a preference, not a rule that every other manufacturer is unsuitable.
Can AVAG install FireAngel or HiSPEC?
Yes, where the chosen range suits the required system. FireAngel and HiSPEC both have established smoke, heat and CO options, including interconnected products.
Can different alarm brands be interlinked together?
Do not assume so. Compatibility is model- and system-specific. Existing bases, hardwired interlink, radio modules and product generations need to be checked before mixing or extending a system.
Is the most expensive alarm automatically the best choice?
No. The correct choice is the alarm that meets the required specification for the location and system. Price, brand and features are considered after the protection requirement is understood.
