Find the cause, not just the symptom
An electrical fault can be obvious, such as a circuit breaker that will not reset, or intermittent, such as lights flickering only at certain times. AVAG Electrical Services uses a structured testing process to narrow down the affected circuit, identify the cause and explain the repair options before work continues.
If there is burning, smoke, heat, sparking or an immediate risk, isolate the supply only if it is safe to do so and contact an electrician. Do not repeatedly reset a protective device that continues to trip.
What the visit involves
The first step is listening to what happened and when. We then inspect the relevant equipment and test the installation in a logical sequence. Depending on the issue, this can include checking protective devices, separating circuits, testing continuity and insulation, and examining accessible connections.
Once the cause is identified, you receive a clear explanation of the findings. Straightforward repairs may be completed during the same visit when suitable parts and access are available. Larger remedial work is quoted separately.
Common warning signs
- A breaker or RCD trips repeatedly.
- Lights flicker, dim or stop working.
- A socket or switch feels unusually warm.
- You hear buzzing or crackling from electrical equipment.
- There is a burning smell near an accessory or consumer unit.
- Power disappears when a particular appliance or circuit is used.
Can you find an intermittent electrical fault?+
Intermittent faults can take longer to reproduce, but information about when the issue occurs helps guide testing. We work through the likely causes systematically.
Will you tell me the cost before repairing it?+
We explain the findings and agree the next step before carrying out additional remedial work.
Which areas do you cover?+
AVAG covers all of London. Based in SE6, the fastest availability is usually around Catford, Lewisham, Greenwich and Bromley.
