The “from” price is not a guaranteed fixed price from a photograph. Hidden faults, unsuitable earthing or bonding, borrowed/shared neutrals, damaged circuits, poor insulation resistance, continuity problems or other defects can only be confirmed by inspection and electrical testing.
Before we alter the installation, we need to establish that the existing installation and the relevant earthing and bonding arrangements are suitable for the proposed work. If something is not satisfactory, we explain it before additional remedial work is carried out.
Do I need an EICR before a new fuse box?
For the clearest picture of the property before replacement, a full EICR is strongly recommended where the condition of the installation is unknown, older, or has not been properly tested recently. In every case, appropriate pre-installation inspection and testing is required before AVAG proceeds with the consumer unit replacement.
If you already have a recent EICR, upload it with your enquiry. It can be useful supporting information, but AVAG does not rely solely on testing or certification completed by another contractor. Because we will be responsible for the alteration and our certification, we carry out our own appropriate verification and testing before proceeding.
What if faults are found?
Finding a fault does not mean you automatically receive an unexpected bill. We explain what has been identified, what is required for the proposed work, and what is optional or can be planned separately. Any additional remedial work is priced and agreed with you before it is carried out.

Yes, please send it to us. We will review it, but we will still carry out our own appropriate checks because AVAG will be responsible for the alteration and certification.
Does a new consumer unit fix existing wiring problems?+
No. A new consumer unit improves protection, but it does not repair damaged or unsuitable wiring. Existing faults may require separate remedial work.
Will the power be switched off?+
Yes. The supply must be safely isolated while the existing unit is replaced, connections are completed and circuits are tested.
